Helping Paws Across Borders (HPAB) embarked on their four day campaign to spay and neuter island pets and strays. This is part of the San Pedro Saga Humane Society’s October Snip-a-thon that aims to spay and neuter over 300 dogs on the island. The group of 15 veterinarians, vet techs and dog trainers along with Saga Humane Society employees are hard at work rounding up dogs to be spayed and neutered.
On Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, October 10th the group is stationed at Mrs. Adaly Ayuso’s property in the DFC area, using Saga’s Mobile Animals Surgical Hospital (MASH). Free medical treatment and vaccinations are also being offered.
According to Coleen Creeden, one of the Directors of Saga, the first phase of the snip-a-thon has been a huge success. “On the first day we managed to spay and neuter over 25 dogs, many which were brought in by their pet owners. We have also rounded up several stays that we have snipped,” said Creeden. She also emphasized the importance to spaying and neutering dogs to control dog populations in the island. “Thanks to the caller on the Morning Show, we were able to pick up a dog and her newly born pups out of the rain on Tuesday morning. Ideally we would like to keep this from happening by spaying and neutering pets to control populations and reduce strays.”
Saga invited residents to make appointments throughout October to spay and neuter their pets while the services are free of charge. Remember its Hip to Snip!
