“I hate to take this trip,” Raul told me. “I know my old lady is cheating on me and I don’t want to leave her alone for three days.”
“You don’t have much choice. You have to be in court in San Ignacio about that land deal.”
“I know,” he said. “I can’t get out of it.”
“Are you sure she’s cheating?” I asked. “Who is she seeing?”
“I don’t know and I don’t have time to find out right now,” he replied. “I fixed her, though. I put a special lock on the bedroom door and gave her three days of food. There’s bars on the windows and a bathroom in there so she’ll get by.”
“Raul, that’s not legal,” I said.
“I don’t care. I just want to make sure she doesn’t see anybody while I’m gone.”
“I’m not going to be involved with it,” I told him.
“Don’t worry. All you are doing is giving me a ride when we reach Belize City.”
On our way to the airport we drove by Antonio’s house.
“Tony’s my best friend,” Raul said. “I left an extra key with him in case the house catches fire or something like that. I told him I don’t want that door opened until I get back because that woman will cheat with anybody she sees.”
We landed at Belize City Municipal and as soon as we got off the plane Raul’s cell phone rang.
He said, “Yeah, this is Raul. What do you mean I left you the wrong key?”
