Keep It Clean
When the phone rang I picked it up and said, “Hello, Dennis speaking.”
“Hey, Dennis. This is Bruce.”
“It’s good to hear from you,” I said. “How are things in Queen City, Texas?”
“I’m not in Texas. I’m in Belize.”
“I thought you and Becky weren’t coming until June.”
“I bought a piece of property when we were down here earlier this year,” he said. “I had to come down and do some paperwork.”
“Do you have time for lunch?” I asked.
“I’m starving. Where do you want to meet?”
“There is this new restaurant that I haven’t tried yet.”
I gave him directions to find the restaurant and met him there. The waiter seated us at a table.
“I’ll have the cheeseburger,” Bruce said.
“I want rice and beans,” I said.
“What would you like to drink?”
“I’ll take a beer. How about you Bruce?”
“What kind of beer do you have?” Bruce asked the waiter.
“Our beer cooler is broken down today so the only beer we have is draft.”
“A draft will be fine,” Bruce said. “But make sure the glass is clean.”
Fifteen minutes later the waiter returned with our food.
“O.K.” he said. “Who had the cheeseburger?”
He served us and then went to get our drinks. He returned in a couple of minutes with two draft beers.
“O.K.” he said. “Which one of you wanted the clean glass?”
