On Thursday, May 21st the San Pedro Lions Club welcomed visiting Lion brother Malcolm Kirwan to San Pedro Town. Kirwan, who is a Past District Governor of Sub-district 60B and a Past Council Chairman of Multiple District 60, currently serves as the Global Leadership Team – Global Membership Team Special Area Advisor Multiple District 60, District 63 to Haiti and Belize. Here by invitation of the Belize Lion Zone 59, Lion Kirwan was the guest speaker at the 37th annual convention of the Belize Lion Zone 59, which was held in Belmopan City over the weekend of May 22nd.
During Lion Kirwan’s one-night stay on La Isla Bonita, the San Pedro Lions put out the red carpet for their distinguished guest, giving him a tour of the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro PolyClinic II, which was initiated by the San Pedro Lions Club years ago. Kirwan was also treated to a visit to the San Pedro Lions Club Mosquito Coast Park located in the southern part of Ambergris Caye and given a tour of San Pedro Town.
On the same evening the San Pedro Lions hosted a dinner for their guest of honor at the Lions Den. During the reception, a welcome ceremony was held, led by Master of Ceremony Jorge Aldana. Lion Kirwan took the opportunity to address the crowd of Lions and their guests, speaking of the importance of Lionism in the community and applauding the efforts of the young Leos. Following a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the history of the San Pedro Lions, the group of more than forty people enjoyed a delicious rice and beans dinner. DJ music followed, with many taking the opportunity to dance with Lion Kirwan.
The following day, on May 22nd Lion Kirwan traveled with a delegation of San Pedro Lions to Belmopan for the convention, which was held under the theme, “Lions promoting hope through service – join us.”
