After a parade and a closing ceremony to culminate Police Week 2012, the Police Department in San Pedro received a much needed police truck on Saturday June 30th from the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC). The vehicle was handed over by Mayor of San Pedro Town Daniel Guerrero and at hand to receive the pickup truck was the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Coast Executive Unite, Assistant Superintend (ASP) of Police Vienne Robinson.

The handing over of the truck was done to coincide with closing activities for Police week celebrated under the theme, “Lets unite and continue to make Belize safer.” The entire formation took off at 10AM from in front of the Police Station and marched down Pescador Drive eventually on Barrier Reef Drive ending in front of the Police Station. Following the parade, the Police held a short ceremony to mark the closing of the week’s long activities.

During the ceremony, ASP Robinson explained that the activities were successful thanks to the efforts of the community at large, the business sector, the Police Department and the extra work from the Special Constables. Special Awards were given out for Special Constable of the Year Albert Lawrence, Tourism Officer of the Year Shedrick Dominguez and Officer of the Year Sergeant 200 Ludwig Castillo. Awards were also given out to Donor of the Year Talal Harmouch and Civilian Citizen of the Year Guillermo Nunez. Certificate of appreciation were given to George Dunn, Francisco “Panny” Arceo, Brian Cook, Bernard Spain, Lucy Garcia and Samuel Gomez for their outstanding contribution to the Police Department in fight against crime.

Present at the ceremony were members of the SPTC led by Mayor Guerrero. The Mayor took the occasion to officially hand over keys to a red police pick-up truck to the SP Police Department. While not new, the SP Police Department expressed sincere gratitude for the truck. In accepting the keys to police truck, ASP Robinson said that, “the handing over of the truck comes at the most opportune time since we are facing transportation problems to conduct patrol and respond quickly to reports. I assure the SPTC and the public that the truck will defiantly be put to good use.”

For his part SP Mayor said that the SPTC remains committed in the fight against crime. “The fact that the SPTC is here today making this contribution to the police department is proof that we are committed to assisting you in any way possible to make our community safe. I hope and firmly believe that this vehicle will be put to good use in fighting crime,” said Mayor Guerrero.

After the ceremony, those in attendance joined the Police for lunch and refreshments. The San Pedro Police Department would like to thank everyone who made Police Week 2012 in San Pedro a success.
