Governor General Swears in New Minister of State

On June 1, 2021, Hon. Elvia Vega-Samos, was sworn in as the new Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs. She was sworn in by Her Excellency Froyla Tzalam, Governor General of Belize at the Belize House in Belmopan.

The new minister of state was elected in the by-election of March 3, 2021, and sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives on April 9, 2021. Hon. Vega-Samos is the first woman to be elected as area representative for Corozal Bay.
Hon. Vega-Samos succeeds Hon. Gilroy Usher who will now join Hon. Rodwell Ferguson as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics.
Minister Samos was joined by her family and members of the House of Representatives during her swearing-in.
