On Monday, October 8th, 2018, the comprehensive architectural drawings for the construction of the headquarters building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will be located in Belmopan, were unveiled. The drawings were unveiled to the Minister and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ambassador and staff of the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The drawings call for a two-level, 20,000 gross square footage, modern and sustainable facility. The design makes use of the natural landscape for outdoor amenities to serve the staff and enhance the architectural designs of nearby buildings. The building will be constructed to be fully-accessible and will have the ability for future expansion in its structural design. The structure should withstand hurricane force winds in excess of 150 miles per hour and will serve as a shelter for staff and foreign diplomatic agents in times of emergency.

This is the second building that the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is gifting to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Government of Belize) in its ongoing programme to strengthen the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Member Countries of SICA. The building is expected to be completed within six to nine months after the commencement of construction.

The firm, International Environmentals Limited, is charged with the preparation of the architectural drawings and construction of the said building with the concurrence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
