The San Pedro Saga Humane Society held a fun -filled fund-raiser at Casa Picasso Restaurant on Saturday, January 16th under the theme ‘Saga Night Fever.’ It was a 70’s Disco Party from 7 to 11PM, and for a fee/donation of $70, attendees enjoyed three hours of passed appetizers, cash bar, music from the 70’s, prizes for best 70’s dress-up, dance competition, instructional hustle dancing, raffles and even the ever-fabulous mirror ball on the ceiling. The event was a huge success with guests really getting into the 70’s spirit, enjoying nostalgic memories of that decade. A portion of all proceeds and 10% of the bar went to Saga.
DJ Matt Hoy had the crowd dancing the night away, showing off their groovy 70’s dancing skills. At the end of the event there were even prizes issued to the best dancers and best-dressed. Joe and Sally Gillespie won the dancing contest as the ‘Pimps,’ while Mike and Ann showed the audience how you can make a cool outfit from a rug and Steve and Sue were selected as the winners for best dressed with their amazing 70’s outfits. The charity event also had a fabulous raffle with many happy winners. Congratulations to all.
Organizers would like to extend their thanks to everyone who came out to support a worthy cause. Special thanks go out to the Saga Teams, Casa Picasso, Rose Alcantara for leading everyone in The Hustle and the best DJ on the land, Matt Hoy, for spinning the right tunes. Thanks to Black Orchid Restaurant, Coco Beach Resort, Coco Blanca Restaurant, Debbie Cooper and Belizean Arts for donating towards our silent auction.
Saga would also like to extend a HUGE thank you to Jerry Jeff Walker for passing the hat at the first Camp Jerry Jeff Concert at Fido’s on Tuesday night! As always, Jerry Jeff is helping the community of San Pedro in so many ways. One of his biggest fans – Miss Becky Naquin, made a huge donation in return for a special song dedicated to her! Thank you to her and all who came and helped the dogs and cats of the island!
