How exciting, it’s the Costa Maya time of year on La Isla! Every year we look forward to this fantastic festival of pageantry and performers! Soon our streets will be super busy with guests visiting from the mainland and abroad while our restaurants and bars enjoy a boost in business for a few days. Other businesses will prosper as well; usually there’s not a golf cart to be rented or a room to be had during the three-night extravaganza, all good for our local entrepreneurs. Inside the Saca Chispa field where the stage is set and the carnival is situated, there are local vendors who cater to the hungry guests or sell merchandise.
It is an event we save up for and dress up…decked out in our best we go to the festivities excited to see familiar faces, mix and mingle. The Costa Maya Queen pageant is always a favorite, and of course the concerts beg for dancing and merriment. It’s all worth looking forward to, and this year there is something new that many of us have been wanting and waiting for…for YEARS…it’s a brand new LADIES ROOM!!!! Yeah, finally we woman-types can relieve ourselves with dignity! No more picking through soaked floors littered with tissue in our pretty new shoes, no more asking someone to hold the door for us while taking care of business and hopefully no more waiting in endless lines when nature calls! Sure the pageant will be awesome, sure the bands will be great and oh yes the food, fun and libations will be abundant, but what I am really excited about are the new bathrooms at Saca Chispa! Thank you San Pedro Town Council from the females of San Pedro!
