26 children’s books were donated to the San Pedro Town Library on Thursday, August 13th courtesy of El Pescador Resort. The donation was well received and with the new school year quickly approaching, children will now have more material to continue developing their reading skills at the library.
Assistant Librarian, Brianne Leiva received the donation and encourages everyone to continue make good use of the library services. “We are happy to continue getting the support from everyone and of course the helpful donations that improve our services. The library offers a wide range of services such as access to internet, assistance in research for students, vast information of different topics, educational programs as well as an open space for meetings which can be arranged ahead of time,” said Leiva.
The library is growing and according to Leiva the facility is now able to provide updated material, especially with the help of donations such as this. Even though the library has been improving during the past months many people are not fully aware of the facility’s services. “We want everyone to come to the library and benefit from our services. We have access to tons of information in a clean and friendly environment. Also we want the general public to be aware of our educational programs throughout the year, especially during the summer when we engage in our reading camps” stated Leiva. The library also provides booking systems. If there is a particular book you need to finish an assignment the library can get it for you if they don’t have it through their affiliates in the United States of America.
Anyone can become a member and be able to borrow books. “Anybody can come to the library and fill out a form which is then taken to a Justice of the Peace so it can be stamped. Upon returning the form to the library, there is a fee of $3 and this membership is good for three years,” explained Leiva.
20The library is open Monday to Friday from 9:00AM to 7:00PM and on Saturdays 9:00AM to 1:00PM. It’s located on Barrier Reef Drive directly across the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School.
