Involving parents in the education of their children is an integral part of a well rounded education. The San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) has set aside one day a month where parents are able to join children of the Infant I division in fun activities. Bonding, parenting and educational fun – what better way to spend quality time with the children than working on a project that promotes cleanliness and health?
The first family day took place on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. While one group of parents worked with their diligent students on signs proclaiming the benefits of not littering, another group painted trash cans to hold the litter that all students generate throughout the day. Another group worked on inverted rubber tires, painting them before filling them in with black soil and planting foliage and flowers to make the classrooms and yard look fantastic.
According to Roxani Kay, Principal of the SPRCS, this is the first of the monthly initiative at the primary school. One day a month, parents will be invited to come to the school and socialize. They will meet other parents and spend time with their children in the school environment, while gaining insight into the day to day lives of their children at school. It is the hope of the SPRCS that parents and children both benefit from this initiative.
