The San Pedro Police Department has released crime statistics for the months of November and December, 2013. The report demonstrates a steady decrease in crime, with major crimes down by 25% in the month of December 2013, and theft and burglary having the highest rates.
The Police Department also reported that most major crime cases ended in an arrest. Other crimes including harm, assault and wounding also went down 17% from of November to December 2013.
Murder rates are also down. Since January 2013 there have been four murders in San Pedro: Byron Espat Estrada, stabbed to death on January 26, 2013, Eugene Anthony Lockwood, shot to death on March 11, 2013. Jeremy Baptist’s disappearance was declared murder by evidence after he went missing on May 20, 2013. And finally, Ajlan Raheem Requena was shot to death while robbing a store on December 21, 2013.
Police reports show a large crime concentration in the Town Core, Boca del Rio and San Pedrito. Throughout the year, police also carried out several drug raids both at homes and on persons. Crime response also went up. San Pedro police reported a 58% increase in arrests as compared to 2012.
