Ambergris Caye family charged for unlicensed ammunition and contraband cigarettes

San Pedro Police have detained four people after they were busted with a large quantity of contraband cigarettes and unlicensed ammunition. They are 35-year-old Jaziba Nasser and 42-year-old Nazim Nasser (husband and wife) along with their two sons, 19-year-old Jamal and 18-year-old Hilal Nasser, all Lebanese nationals. Sometime around 4PM on Wednesday October 23rd, San Pedro Police visited a residence located on the second floor of a supermarket on Coconut Drive on Ambergris Caye.

According to police, based on information received, they conducted an operation and visited the residence of the Nassers. There they found 75 cartons of cigarettes, which had an estimated market value of $22,000 and six .22 caliber rounds of unlicensed ammunition.

All four were jointly charged for being in possession of unlicensed ammunition, and they were taken to the Belize City Magistrate Court on Thursday October 24th. Because of the nature of the offence, no bail was granted and they were remanded to prison. According to police, more charges for the contraband cigarettes are expected to be brought forward by the Belize Customs Department.
