Mobile Health Clinic continues to promote healthy living in San Pedro

Share

In a continuing effort to promote healthy lifestyles in San Pedro Town, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and partners organized another installment of the Mobile Health Clinic on Friday, October 14th. Held at the Sagebrush Belize Campus in the Boca Del Rio Area, the initiative is a collaboration between Perez, the San Pedro Town Council, PAHO Belize, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the San Pedro Lions Club. Throughout the day, island residents benefited from information on leading a healthy lifestyle, wellness screenings and evaluations,  and free consultations with medical specialists.
The mobile health clinic was open to island residents from 9AM to 2PM. Several booths offered attendees information pamphlets from organizations such as the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization, the National AIDS Commission of Belize, and the National Drug Abuse Control Council, as well as fun games for children with prizes for the whole family.
Community members took advantage of the free consultations with medical specials from the Cuban doctor’s brigade, including an ear, nose, and throat specialist, internist, geriatric, pediatric, and general medicine. Other medical services included vaccines for babies, pap smears, pregnancy tests, mental health evaluations, glucose checks, blood pressure checks, HIV testing, dengue testing, malaria testing, and dental cleaning. A pharmacy was also set up to provide residents with free prescriptions for those needing medications.
According to Perez, offering such services to his constituents is essential to promote the importance of health. The mobile health clinic is a project he started earlier this year and has been held in several different areas of Ambergris Caye and in Caye Caulker Village to promote accessibility to all community members.

Organizers plan to continue this monthly initiative and invite other stakeholders to participate and contribute to the island community. Anyone needing more information on the mobile health clinic initiative can call 613-0787.
