A new set of rules will go into effect on Sunday, August 1st, concerning COVID-19 precautions. In a virtual press conference on Friday, July 30th, Minister of Health and Wellness the Honourable Michel Chebat listed out some of the public health measures such as a 9PM to 4AM curfew, a COVID Enforcement Unit, the definition of frontline workers, and penalties to any person issuing/selling fraudulent vaccination cards.
Minister Chebat explained that frontline workers will now include civil aviation personnel and employees at the BPOs. Unvaccinated members of these workplaces will be required to present a negative PCR test for COVID-19. Due to the spike in COVID-19 cases, the current 10PM curfew will be reduced by one hour, beginning at 9PM on Sunday.
Every tour guide/operator must present their vaccination card to carry out their duties and services. The minister added that Casinos will be required to operate at 50% capacity. To further see these regulations respected, a COVID Enforcement will be established to enforce these measures. Members of this unit will have the power to en public establishments at random to ensure the regulations are being followed.
Regarding the recent report of people selling fake vaccination cards, that offense will now be ticketable. Anyone caught trying to sell fraudulent vaccination cards will be subjected to fines and confinement.
Minister Chebat stated that another village in the southern district of Toledo, Santa Elena, will undergo a two-week lockdown because of their high numbers of COVID-19. As those in Conejo, Midway, and Barranco who were on a lockdown, these villagers will receive food, water, and a weekly stipend from the government.
