The wife of the Prime Minister and the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Her Excellency Rosanna Briceño, paid an official visit to San Pedro Town on Tuesday, March 30th. During her visit, she was given a tour of the Hope Haven’s Children’s Home and Empowerment Center and its Domestic Violence Outreach Center.
Her Excellency Briceño also met with Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, Deputy Mayor Dianeli Aranda, and Councillors Ernesto Bardalez and Jose Castellanos. They discussed developing projects to empower women and children in San Pedro.
In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, Briceño stated that the visit went very well, her team learned a lot, and it was very encouraging to see what is happening on the island. “We are looking to see how the government can assist the NGOs, which are already in place. It is just a matter of giving them the support, the services, and possible resources to help them build on what they have and continue providing better services,” said Briceño. She noted that through partnership, essential services such as counseling, medical, and human development could be accomplished so vulnerable children and women can receive the support they need.
The visit also saw the Special Envoy handing over a printer Hope Haven’s Children Learning Center. According to her, there are children engaged in online learning, and the printer will come in handy to print out the learning packages. Briceño also brought Easter baskets for the resident children at the center.
Briceño was appointed Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children on January 22, 2021. She holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a master’s degree in Curriculum Development and Diagnostic Assessment. The Prime Minister’s wife also has a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and has an established career as an educator.
The San Pedro Town Council and Hope Haven thanked Her Excellency Briceño for the visit and look forward to partnering with her office.
