On December 14, the U.S. Embassy delivered COVID-19 response equipment and supplies valued at over U.S. $37,000 to Belize’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) at the Price Barracks in Ladyville, Belize. Major Matthew Adams, U.S. Embassy Belmopan Office of Security Cooperation Chief, represented the U.S. Embassy when handing over the items.
Emphasizing the strong partnerships that enable the U.S. donation, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges noted, “As the world continues to battle the threat of COVID-19 together, the United States is doing our part to help our Belizean friends and neighbors. These supplies will be used to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Belize. We remain deeply committed to supporting organizations like NEMO in their efforts to deliver timely assistance to the people of Belize in emergencies, including those created by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Representing the U.S. Embassy at the December 14 donation handover, Maj. Matthew Adams emphasized, “The United States Southern Command is proud to work diligently with the Government of Belize to provide medical equipment, supplies and other assistance to fight the spread of this virus.” He added that, “As partners, we will get through this pandemic together.”
The U.S. government donations will enhance NEMO’s ability to effectively coordinate COVID-19 response efforts and deliver timely assistance to the people in Belize during the pandemic. The donations include cleaning supplies such as bleach, garbage bags, mops, brooms, disinfectant spray, and hand sanitizer, as well as gloves, masks, gowns, and face shields. The donations continue to build on the U.S. government’s longstanding commitment to improve Belize’s crises response capabilities.
