A short ceremony was held at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center on April 3, 2017, where the Federal Republic of Germany handed over grant of $21,604 USD to the residential institution.
The presentation of the funds was conducted by His Excellency Mr. Harald Klein, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Guatemala and Belize, to Mrs. Dorothy Menzies, Chair of the Board of Governors for the Center.
The funds were mobilized through the initiative of the Board of Governors and will be used to assist with the current upgrading of the Center, which is being implemented by the Government of Belize. Upgrades include the replacement of furniture, completion of the fence, re-wiring of the electrical system, installation of a surveillance system in an effort to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
The Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center is a residential care facility for children who have been abandoned, neglected, abused and/or orphaned. The Center currently houses 44 children and has been in operation for 42 years. A Board of Governors, comprised of government and community representatives, provides oversight for the institution and assists in identifying and funding projects to enhance the quality of services offered to the children.
