The children of San Pedro will soon be enjoying a new playground set at Central Park. Courtesy of Blue Water Grill’s (BWG) Monthly Donation Program, the wooden playground set has replaced the old deteriorated set that used to sit on the sandy left corner of the Central Park. The 30 feet playground set cost $4,249.52BZ, and while a portion of the money was raised through the April Monthly Donation Program, the difference was paid by BWG, including delivery fees. Even the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) came on board with the project, as they are covering installation and paint expenses.
For the month of April, BWG patrons donated $1,125BZ which was matched 100%. This totaled to $2,250. But that amount did not cover the full cost of the playground set, so BWG decided to simply incur the extra cost. With funds allocated, BWG ordered the playground about two weeks ago. Installation started promptly after delivery on Tuesday, May 12th. The playground set is expected to be fully installed and painted by Saturday, May 16th.
The much needed playground set should provide hours of enjoyment for the island’s children. BWG and SPTC would like to take the opportunity to ask the community of San Pedro to please take care of the playground set and not to vandalize it. Central Park is for the enjoyment of all, so it is everyone’s responsibility to care for it and not destroy it.
Funds raised during May’s Monthly Donation Program will go towards Ambergris Caye Elementary School’s scholarship program for children with disabilities. “Often, parents can’t afford to pay for special education for their children. We want to help those kids. For your information: $50 pays for one week of school, $100 pays for two weeks, $250 pays for one month, $3000 pays for year,” said BWG on their social media page.
Big thanks goes out to all those who has contributed so far to BWG’s Monthly Donation Program, your donation has helped make San Pedro a better community! The San Pedro Sun thanks BWG for their wonderful initiative.
