Hundreds of school children on Ambergris Caye were paid a special visit just before the Christmas break courtesy of the San Pedro Town Council. Mayor Daniel Guerrero accompanied by Santa Claus and his helpers made a stop at each school, handing out a small gift to each student. It is an annual activity for the council, and is one that brings smiles to the children of the island; and on December 10th and 11th, the happy faces were in abundance.
Stops were made first on Wednesday, December 10th at the larger schools starting with San Pedro Roman Catholic School eventually ending with the preschools the following day. According to Mayor Guerrero over 2,000 toys were distributed to the school children across the island. For the most part, the toys included various sets of dolls, toy cars and trucks.
Santa Claus dropped by at each classroom and personally handed over the gifts, pausing for a few pictures. Some of the students, with help of their teachers, prepared musical presentation for Santa Claus as he made his visit around Ambergris Caye.
After distributing the gifts through San Pedro Town, Santa and his elves returned to the North Pole to honor other commitments before Christmas.
