The San Pedro Sports Committee (SPSC) Football Tournament is winding down to the finals, and teams are fighting for the win. After the fifth round of games, FC United and Joker FC are still leading the boards in their group but they better not get too comfortable because Island Pure and Southwind are looking to take over. At this point of the tournament every goal counts.
On Saturday, March 8th, four teams faced off in two grueling matches. In the first game, Southwind faced off Costa Blu. With every intention to take the lead in Group B, Southwind defeated Costa Blu in a 4-1 point game. The second game was between VH Bomber and Island Pure, the game ended in a 0-1 win for Island Pure.
Four matches were played on Sunday, March 9th. The first game was between Communicaciones and Warriors. It was a tight match, but a last minute score secured the win for Communicaciones with a 2-1 point game. In the second match, Joker FC took on Legends,spanking them with a 2-0 final score for Joker FC. The Veterans and Caribbean Depot faced off in the third match of the day, ending with a 1-0 point game in favor of the Veterans. The final game of the day was between San Juan FC and Dorados, and for San Juan, the disappointment was bitter when Dorados won with a 0-2 point game.
Joker FC is still leading Group A with 13 points. Island Pure has jumped to second place with 10 points, followed by Legends in third place with seven points and Caye Caulker in fourth place also with seven points. VH Bombers are in fifth place with four points, Communicaciones are in sixth place with three points and finally, the Warriors round up the seventh place with zero points.
In Group B, FC United is still in the lead with 10 points. In a close second is Southwind also with 10 points. Veterans follow in third place with nine points, Dorados in fourth place with eight points, San Juan in fifth place with three points, Costa Blu in sixth with two points and Caribbean Depot in seventh place still with zero points.
Jordy Craft from Joker FC is the current top scorer of the tournament with eight goals. In second place is Joel Banner from FC United with seven goals.
Games will continue on Saturday, March 15th and Sunday, March 16th. Game schedule will be released later in the week.
