Press Release- Matachica, June 13th-
Just in time for the summer holidays, Matachica Resort and Spa is pleased to announce the launch of San Pedro Day Camp. After identifying a need for summer activities for Belizean children, Nicholas Lighter, son of Daniel Lighter, owner of both properties, established a brand new summer program, San Pedro Day Camp.
Nicholas and four of his Montreal-based classmates have banded together to fundraise and organize San Pedro Day Camp, a nonprofit summer camp that will offer fun outdoor activities to local children to enjoy the summer months with friends. The camp will offer daily activities such as swimming, soccer, football, volleyball, dodge ball, beach games, treasure hunts, snorkeling, board games, and arts & crafts.
Based at Isla Bonita Elementary School, San Pedro Day Camp will host 50 children each week throughout July. As a result of their fundraising efforts in Canada, Nicholas and his team are able to cover all expenses for the program, including free camp T-shirts, daily snacks, games, sports equipment and arts & crafts supplies. Each child will be able to enjoy the fun of summer camp without any costs to their families.
Matachica Resort and Spa and GAÏA Riverlodge, its sister property, are proud to assist in bringing this vision to fruition. Matachica staff are also excited to join in the fun of this new day camp, helping with activities and programs for the children in attendance. By creating a unique camp experience to Belizean children, all parties involved are proud to bring together the San Pedro community and give resources back to the kind, generous, local families that are such an important part of Belize’s irresistible culture.
