“There’s Señora Zima walking her dogs,” Mario said.
Mario and I were having our morning coffee on the deck of the Holiday Hotel when the old lady walked by with her two big German Shepherd dogs.
“When I came out here on the deck at seven o’clock she was walking down the beach so she’s on her way home,” I said.
A boy about sixteen years old rode his bike past the old lady and suddenly grabbed her handbag and ripped it from her arm. She and her dogs stood and watched as he disappeared up the beach. Mario and I leaped to our feet and Mario chased the bike until it was hopeless. We brought Señora Zima to our table and Mario went to get her a coffee.
“That was a terrible experience,” I said to her. “There should be beach patrols so you can walk the beach safely with your dogs.”
“This is no big problem,” the old señora said. “Is a very old handbag and it happen to me many times.”
“I don’t see how a purse snatching in broad daylight could be considered no problem,” I told her.
“Señor Wolfe, I tell you it is not so bad as it looks,” Señora Zima said. “I got lots of old purses people give me.”
“But what about all the stuff in your purse?”
She said, “When I walk my dogs I pick up the dog poop and put it in an old handbag to take it home and put in the garbage.”
