Wolfe’S Woofer: Medical School

Dennis-Wolfe-Wolfes-Woofers“How are you John?”
“I’m doing great. Life could not be better.”
I was sitting on the deck at the Holiday Hotel drinking my coffee and reading my book when John walked in holding a cup of coffee in his hand.
“Pull up a chair,” I said. “We’ll have a cup of coffee together and catch up on things.”
“How is your boy doing?” he asked. “Is he still in college?”
“Yeah,” I replied. “At the rate he’s going he’s going to be there a long, long time. How about your son? What’s up with him?”
“Johnny got his bachelor’s degree and yesterday he took the exam for medical school.”
“Wow! That’s great.” I said.
“He’s going to meet me here when his flight comes in,” John said. “We have great hopes of him becoming a doctor like the rest of the men in the family. If he can’t pass the exam he will study law. We really don’t want a lawyer in the family, though.”
“Hey, Dad!” someone called. “Hey, Mr. Wolfe.”
Johnny walked up on the deck lugging a suitcase.
“Here he is now,” John said. “How did the exams go, boy? Did you get accepted to medical school?”
“No, sir,” Johnny said. “I failed the oral part of the test.”
“But, how did you fail?” his dad asked. “I know you studied hard.”
Johnny said, “For the last part of the test they ask ten questions that you must answer orally. You have to get all ten correct. I got the first nine right. I missed the last one.”
“What was the question you missed?”
“They asked us to rearrange the letters PNEIS to form the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect. Everyone who said spine passed. The rest of us will be lawyers.”
