Wolfe’s Woofers: More Confessions

Dennis-Wolfe-Wolfes-Woofers“I’ll have a cup of coffee,” I told Shandy, the waiter at Estel’s.

While I waited for Charlie to join me, I could not help overhearing the conversation at the table next to me.

“Oh, George,” said the beautiful tourist lady to her husband. “This island is beautiful. It’s the perfect place to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary.”

Her husband, an older man in his fifties said, “Just think; twenty years ago you were an eighteen year-old secretary at my company. Now you are my beautiful bride of twenty years.”

After a pause he said, “Dear, I need to ask you a question. In those twenty years have you ever been unfaithful to me?”

“George, why would you ask a question like that now? You don’t want to ask that question.”

“I have to ask,” her husband said. “I don’t think anyone could be faithful for twenty years. I promise not to get mad.”

“If you promise,” she said. “All right; it was three times.”

“That’s not so bad,” her husband said. “Who was it?”

“Remember when you needed heart surgery and we could not afford it?”

“Yes, but the greatest surgeon in Texas flew in and did the operation for free.”

“He did it because of what I did for him.”

“Oh, my God! You saved my life. I love you more than ever for that.”

“Do you remember when you needed a loan to start your own business and the bank wouldn’t lend you the money?”

“Yes, but the bank president came over to our house and personally co-signed the loan for me. Don’t tell me you arranged it.”

“I certainly did. He did it as a personal favor.”

“I can’t fault you for that,” her husband said. “That is how I got rich. What was the third time?”

“O.K.” his wife said. “Do you remember when you wanted to be elected president of the Rotary Club? All you needed was forty three votes. That was the third time.”
