A well-defined tropical weather disturbance is moving along the western Caribbean Sea, producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms that have already been felt along the Belizean coastal communities. The tropical wave is expected to become a tropical depression and could produce heavy rains, with possible flash flooding, over portions of southern Mexico and Central America (Belize) over the weekend.
According to reports, development is expected to become less likely if the system moves over the Yucatan Peninsula or northern Central America. It has a 40% chance of formation during the next 48 hours and 70% chance during the next days to become an even more organized storm.
Right behind this tropical wave is another just east of the Lesser Antilles. It is also producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms and moving westward at 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour. The forecast indicates it could become a little more conducive for development when it is over the central or western Caribbean Sea next week.
The National Meteorological Service of Belize continues to monitor the progress of these systems as they move slowly west-northwest-ward over the north-western Caribbean Sea.
