Feature(s) of Interest: An active tropical wave moving over central Cuba and the central Bahamas this morning is producing scattered thunderstorms over central and eastern Cuba and adjacent waters of the NW Caribbean. This system was designated as Invest-90L by the NHC last week, and is now tracking WNW at 20 mph. Its’ present motion and proximity to land is inhibiting development and this system is being given a 0% chance of development during the next 48 hours.
The tropical wave is expected to slow down later on Tuesday evening as it moves over Yucatan and enters the SE Gulf of Mexico. Thereafter, conditions may become a bit more favourable for development. The tropical wave is interacting with a weak cyclonic circulation drifting westward over the NW Caribbean. The combination of both these features will favour some outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms over coastal waters and the mainland of Belize during today through Wednesday. The instability will persist on Thursday as a low pressure system drifts westward over the north coast of Honduras towards southern Belize.
Conditions will be much more stable as we move towards the weekend!
Daily rainfall totals for the next four days will range from 0.25-0.50 inch over some areas of the NW, the coastal zone and in the South (Stann Creek and Toledo districts). Other areas of the country will get less than 0.25 of-an-inch of rainfall per day through Thursday. Daily rainfall will decrease over all districts on Friday through the weekend.
Tropical Cyclone formation is not expected in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea or the Tropical Atlantic Ocean through Wednesday. Read full report
