United Airlines is now offering a direct flight from Denver, Colorado to Belize. The inaugural flight touched down at the Philip Goldson Airport (PGIA) in Belize on Saturday, December 19th as part of the airline’s service expansion to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. The Denver flight is seasonal, and will be available on Saturdays up until March 2021.
“United’s new service between Denver and Belize offer travelers from the west and Rocky Mountain region more opportunities to plan a warm-weather getaway this winter” said Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network and Alliances. “United has served Belize for more than 30 years and we look forward to continuing to connect customers to Belize from our hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York/Newark and from Los Angeles starting in January.”
Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Anthony Mahler noted that “This new Denver-Belize flight will afford more US travelers the opportunity to conveniently access Belize, particularly as travel begins to ramp up after months of lockdown and travelers are seeking vacations with tropical climates, sandy beaches and low population density – features which Belize offers.” Minister Mahler further added that “It is anticipated that the new flight will boost the tourism and hospitality sectors, and underscores the fact that the Belize brand is still strong and offers opportunities for growth.”
Likewise, Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Hon. Andre Perez, believes that this is a positive development for Belize and says that his ministry recognizes the importance of a safe and secure aviation industry, “We are pleased to welcome this new United Airlines flight to Belize. The addition of new flights is important as we begin to rebuild our tourism infrastructure. We pledge to continue working with industry partners to ensure that the infrastructure and safety protocols at the PGIA are continuously optimized for the confidence of the airlines and visitors.”
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) notes that the new United non-stop flight from Denver is a welcome addition to the current weekly flights offered by the airline from Newark, Houston and Chicago and remains optimistic for a continued gradual increase in overnight arrivals with the tourism season now entering into full swing.
