Lion Man Gordon prepares for the first-ever run around the country challenge

Share

Island marathoner Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon is preparing for another historic sporting milestone that will see him running the country’s breadth and width. Dubbed ‘run around the country,’ Gordon will attempt to accomplish the challenge in eight days from April 27th to May 3rd, beginning in Corozal Town northern Belize.

According to Gordon, he chose these dates because, on May 3rd, he will be celebrating five years as a marathoner.

He explained the route would begin from Corozal Town to Orange Walk Town, running around 13.1 miles every day. After Orange Walk, the plan is to continue running from Punta Gorda Town, Toledo in southern Belize, heading up to Stann Creek, Cayo, and Belize Districts. Gordon aims to be in San Pedro by May 3rd as he celebrates five years in the sport.

The event will be live on social media, and Gordon invites community representatives in each district to come out and provide information about their town or city. The run aims to promote the different municipalities across the country for local and international tourism.

This will be his second challenge of such proportion. On December 19, 2020, he completed the first-ever ‘King Lion 101 mile run challenge.’ Gordon made history after completing the run in 21 hours and 40 minutes.

Gordon invites other athletes to join him in this first-ever run around the country. He also appeals for support to make the event possible and welcomes sponsorship either financially, meals, and even lodging, among others. Anyone able and willing can contact Gordon at phone number 628-6696 or email to [email protected].
