Three footballers of the San Pedro Pirates Football Club have been called to be part of the Belize Football National Team. The selected players from San Pedro Town Jesse Smith, Asrel Sutherland and Moises Hernandez will join the A team in its upcoming qualifying matches for a ticket to represent the Jewel at the 2022 World Cup event to be held in Qatar.
Fans and the management of San Pedro Pirates congratulated the players for being selected to represent the club and island. Smith plays as an offensive midfielder, while Hernandez holds the position of left winger and Sutherland holds the central defense of the Pirates team.
Smith and Sutherland (above, l-r) have previously been called to join the national team. In June of 2019 they were drafted to play with the A team and represent the country at The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football(CONCACAF) Nations League.
The road to Qatar 2022 sees Belize in group E, facing four other teams from the region. The qualifying match is scheduled for October 8th against Haiti, and on the 13th of that same month against Turks and Caicos. On November 13th, the schedule has Belize facing Nicaragua and on the 17th against St. Lucia.
