San Pedro Pirates nab first home victory of the PLB season

During the 11th week of the Premiere League of Belize (PLB) 2019 Opening Season, San Pedro Pirates managed to win their first home game of the season on Saturday, October 19th. With this 2-1 victory against Verdes F.C, the San Pedro Pirates F.C moved up to the fourth place spot in the PLB charts with 16 accumulated points.

The game began inside the Ambergris Stadium at 7:30PM, and fans were eager for a taste of home victory. At the 10th minute, Verdes’ Mariano Landero managed to score the first goal for his team. After that, Pirates responded with close attempts, offside, but all were unsuccessful. Landero managed to score another goal, but it was ruled offside by the referees. The match went to the break with Verdes F.C leading 1-0.

After halftime, Pirates came back extra aggressive and nailed a goal at minute 58 courtesy of Facundo Garnier. With the match even at 1-1, the pressure grew for both teams as fans began chanting for more. At minute 63, due to a penalty in favor of San Pedro Pirates, Henry Vivas managed to nail a second goal for the island team. Thereafter, Verdes’ Landero scored another goal that was once again ruled out as offside. When the game time came to an end, it was 2-1 victory for the San Pedro Pirates F.C, their first at home.

Other matches taking place during the weekend saw FF Valley Pride winning 3-2 against Placencia Assassins, Wagiya Sporting Club easily defeating Altitude F.C with a 6-0 score, and Belmopan Bandits winning 2-0 over Belize Defense Force.

The PLB current standings have Belmopan Bandits at the top of the chart with 25 points, followed by Verdes F.C with 24 points and BDF and San Pedro Pirates F.C with 16 points each. Following the top four teams is Altitude F.C with 15 points, Wagiya Sporting Club with 12 points, Placencia Assassins with six points. At the bottom of the chart is FF Valley Pride with four points.
For their next match, San Pedro Pirates F.C will be playing at home against FF Valley Pride F.C on Saturday, October 26th. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30PM inside the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town. ALL islanders are invited to come out and support the island team during their home game.
