Belmopan Bandits fall 1-0 to San Pedro Pirates

In the 13th week of the 2018-2019 regular Season of the Premiere League of Belize (PLB), the San Pedro Pirates claimed victory over current champions Belmopan Bandits on Saturday, November 10th. With their 1-0 score victory, puts the Pirates are now in second place the tournament standings, with 19 points total.

The match began at 7:30PM at Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan City, with both teams hungry to take the victory and the additional points in the tournament standings. Throughout the entire first half of the match, the ball was controlled equally on both sides and neither team allowed a goal. The first half came to an end with a 0-0 score.

After the break, both teams came back fierce and ready for victory. The second half story looked to be the same, as both teams had a strong defense in place. It was not until minute 69 that Pirates’ Eduardo Chavira found his way in and netted a goal for the island team. With the San Pedro Pirates leading 1-0 l, the Belmopan Bandits tried their best to even the score but all attempts were futile. The long whistle blew and the San Pedro Pirates F.C took the road victory 1-0, handing Bandits their second home loss of the season.

Other matches taking place during the weekend saw Freedom Fighters defeating Verdes F.C 3-0, Altitude Assassins won 2-1 over Wagiya F.C, and Belize Defense Force (BDF) came out victorious with a 2-0 score over Police United F.C.

The current standings of the PLB have Belmopan Bandits and Verdes F.C at the top with 30 points each, followed by San Pedro Pirates with 19 points and Altitude Assassins with 18 points. Following the top four teams is Police United F.C with 14 points, Freedom Fighters with 13 points and Wagiya F.C with 12 points. At the bottom of the chart is BDF with 10 points.

For their last match of the regular season of the PLB, the San Pedro Pirates will be playing a home match against Wagiya F.C on Saturday, November 24th. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30PM at the Ambergris Stadium. All islanders are invited to come out and support the island team.
