The Belize District Zone 5 Primary School Football Tournament came to an end on Thursday, June 2nd at the Honorable Louis Sylvester Sporting Complex in San Pedro Town. The tournament was organized by The San Pedro Sports Committee in collaboration with the National Sports Council of Belize. Male and female teams from different primary schools of Ambergris Caye, and from Caye Caulker played heated matches. After two weeks of intense games, both female and male teams from the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School (SPRCS) emerged victorious. As such, Ambergris Caye will be represented by SPRCS at the Belize District Finals, on Monday, June 6th in Belize City.
The last two set of games were intense, and under the hot afternoon sun, the female division game kicked off the finals. The girls from Holy Cross Anglican Primary School (HCAPS) gave their all on the field, but it was not enough to win the game. The San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School (SPRCS) girls walked away with a victorious score of 2-0. The crowd cheered and celebrated the girls’ win proudly.
Next was the final game in the male division between the boys of SPRCS and HCAPS. This was the decisive games for the boys, under their coaches’ encouragement, both teams gave each other a challenge. In the end, only one could emerge as the winner, and with a score of 1-0, SPRCS boys won the game.
Each team was presented with their respective trophies and prizes, and all the other schools that participated were also recognized. Organizers would like to thank the primary schools for their support and The National Sports Council for allowing the San Pedro Sports Committee to organize the tournament.
