The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has drafted a selection of football players for the Belize National Futsal (five-a-side) Selection to represent the country in the upcoming Central American Football Union (UNCAF) Futsal Elimination Tournament. Among those called to training are seven players from San Pedro Town: Rugerri Trejo, Darrell Novelo, Thomas Baptist, Ethnie Figueroa, Mario Chimal, Luis Valdez and Nestor Cerpa. Those players who take part in the training will be traveling to Guatemala City from Wednesday, January 27th to Sunday, January 31st to take part in UNCAF Futsal Elimination Tournament.
The players were selected from various five-a-side tournaments hosted across the country in 2015. Here in San Pedro, the tournament that facilitated the selection of players was the San Pedro High School (SPHS) and Island Citizens Sporting Club (ICSP) Five-a-side Football Tournament which was held from July to August, 2015. “SPHS and ICSC wish the island players selected all the best in their quest to make the first ever Belize Futsal National team. We are honored to facilitate players from our league to the Belize National Futsal Selection. Team Belize, San Pedro and the entire country is with you, win, lose or draw,” said SPHS and ICSP Five-a-side Football Tournament organizer, Alex Noralez.
The players called for the selection include: Rugerri Trejo, Darrell Novelo, Thomas Baptist, Ethnie Figueroa, Mario Chimal, Luis Valdez, Nestor Cerpa, Jorge Garcia, Juan Carlos Saravia, David Micheal Madrid, Luis Avalos, Jairo Lopez, Cristian Orellana, Kevin Botes, Jorge Hidalgo, Jony Gonzalez, Luis Perez, Cesar Gonzalez, Henry Avilar and Edmond Floyd Pandy. The team has been practicing since Friday, Janaury 15th under the administration of FFB Technical Director, Renan Couoh.
