Island Citizens Sporting Club (ICSC) and the San Pedro High School (SPHS) are back at it with their second ever 5-a-side Football Tournament. After a fun marathon that showcased the skills of the participating teams, the tournament officially started on Sunday, December 13th, with nine thrilling matches. As in the previous edition, the 5-a-side Football Tournament is divided into three categories to better accommodate all levels of athletes: little leagues, females and male seniors. Matches were held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium from 11AM to 8PM.
Starting the day’s matches were the little leaguers, playing in either the Under-11 or Under-13 sub-category. The first match was between Bayern Munich B FC and FC America. This match ended in a 4-0 game in favor of FC America, with Steven Almendarez and Luis Hyde scoring two goals each. In the second match Bayern Munich A FC defeated El Pescador FC in a 4-2 point match. Scoring in this game were Edward Reyes with four goals for Bayern Munich A FC and Leon Reyes with the two goals for El Pescador FC.
Inter de Milan A FC defeated Inter de Milan B FC in the third game of the day in an 8-3 point match. Scorers for Inter de Milan A FC were Wayne Montes with one goal, Ryan Gonzalez with two goals, Henry Gonzalez with three goals, Chadi Harmouch with one goal and Osvaldo Alexandro with one goal, while scorers for Inter de Milan B FC were Dalon Meighan with one goal and Cameron Zetina with two goals. The last little league match for the day was between Liverpool FC and Scorpion Touch FC. The match ended in a devastating defeat for Scorpion Touch FC as Liverpool FC managed to take the victory in a 7-0 point game. Scorers for Liverpool FC were Antony Burgos with two goals, Oslyn with two goals, Juan Diaz with one goal, Christian Chan with one goal and Michael Rodriguez with one goal.
Continuing with the day were the male seniors. The first match was between San Juan FC and Reef Sharks FC, and ended in a 5-2 point win for San Juan FC. Scorers in this game were Henry Hernandez with three goals, Jairon Alonzo with one goal, and Josias Cerritos with one goal for San Juan FC, while Wilmer Hernandez and Wilmer Alaya both scored one goal each for Reef Sharks. The next match saw Caye Caulker Boys facing off against Scorpions FC. With a score of 8-4, Scorpions FC managed to win over Caye Caulker Boys with ease. Scoring for Scorpions FC were Johnny Andino with five goals, Luis Mencia with two goals, and Josh Zometa with one goal, while scoring for Caye Caulker Boys were Sean Mas with one goal, Kenny Witzil with one goal and Melvin Almendarez with two goals.
In the seventh match of the day, Empire FC suffered a devastating loss against Boca Bombers FC, who took the match 9-0. Scoring for Boca Bombers FC were Selvin Martinez with three goals, Brian Guardado with two goals, Savier Sanchez with one goal, Nazir Sanker with one goal, Denis Hyde with one goal and Melvin Trujillo with one goal. The eight game of the day ended up in a 2-2 tie between Island Pure FC and Boca Jr’s FC. Scorers for this match were Elor Gonzalez and Ismael Figueroa for Island Pure FC, and Roberto Guerrero and Clifford Lewis for Boca Jr’s FC. In the last match of the day Costa Blue FC defeated E&L Boys FC in a 3-2 match. Scoring for Costa Blue FC were Luis Hernandez with two goals and Denis Westby with one goal, while Carlos Noriega and Leoli Jurado were the scorers for E&L Boys FC.
The second round of games will be played on Saturday, December 19th starting at 5PM, schedule is as follows: Green Hornets FC versus Real Jr. FC, Island Boys versus SPHS Boys, United FC versus Haramouch FC, Mata Chica FC versus Los Dorados, Victoria’s House FC versus We Them Boys and Pro Divers FC versus Los Catrachos FC.
