The Belize National Triathlon Association BNTA, held its last challenge of the year this past Sunday, November 20th. The race took place in Belize City and saw the participation of 18 teams, and 15 competing individually. Yearly the association hosts five races, usually in conjunction with major festivities.
This race was sponsored by Shell and marked the re-launch of their V-Power gasoline fuel. Organizer, Geovanni Alamilla informed The San Pedro Sun that they decided to do a “Super Sprint” challenge. This challenge started off with a 300 meter sprint, followed by a 10K (6.2 miles) ride and a one and a half mile run. The categories in the race included: male, female, junior, corporate relay and the high school relay.
Team San Pedro, with two of San Pedro Athletes, Eric Donis, Kent Gabourel and from the west, Ms Patricia Chavarria won first place in the corporate challenge, garnering them the first place trophy as well as medals. In the Junior category, Eric finished the entire race as an individual competitor, gaining him the first place in that category.
Mr. Alamilla is very impressed by the way the team representing San Pedro performed, especially by the efforts and accomplishments of 17 year old Donis. The San Pedro Sun extends congratulations to the team for representing the island exceptionally.
