President Donald Trump nominates Andre Bauer as new ambassador for Belize

On Friday, July 17th, United States (US) President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate former South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, and a recent CNN contributor to be next ambassador to Belize.

Bauer, 51, served as the state’s lieutenant governor from 2003-2011 under then-Governor Mark Sanford. He also served as a Major in the South Carolina State Guard from 2010 –2015. His professional profile shows him being involved in real estate development since 1991 and is currently the proprietor of Bunk Aviation, a real estate holding company in Charleston, South Carolina.

Bauer’s educational background includes a B.A. degree from the University of South Carolina’s College of Applied Professional Sciences obtained in 1991. Also, he has received a number of honors including the South Carolina Republican Party Terry Haskins Awards for Legislative Leadership.

The last U.S ambassador assigned to Belize was Carlos Moreno, who finished his term at the end of former President Barack Obama administration.
