One of four candidates expected to contest the Belize Rural South Constituency has been duly nominated. People’s United Party Ana Patricia Arceo visited the San Pedro Town Council office along with a crowd of supporters shortly around 11AM before Election Day returning officer Allan Genitty and Election clerk Carla Acosta.
With a jubilant and energetic crowd, Arceo departed from the PUP Headquarters and led a parade through the major streets of San Pedro Town. Along with loud speakers blasting political songs, the crowd eventually assembled at the foot of the Town Council’s office cheering for Arceo as she was being formally nominated. Arceo was nominated by six electors; Oscar Aguilar, George Dunn, Dona Badillo, Baldemar Graniel, Earl Smith and Jose Milo Paz Jr.
Arceo told her crowd of supporters that the PUP is back and battle ready to fight the UDP. In her interview with The San Pedro Sun, Arceo explained that it is time to listen to the cry of the people. “We hearing the cry of the people… no jobs… high cost of living… no land… lack of proper infrastructure and so on. The people of Belize Rural South have been neglected since 2003 and PUP is listening to these issues and it’s time to make the right change,” explained Arceo. She said that PUP remains very much alive and ready for the elections.
When asked if the objection against one of their candidates to contest the Lake I constituency has demoralize the PUP supporters Arceo said that, “This is just a part of the UDP propagandas to divert attention from the real issues. Our Lake I Standard Bearer will contest the elections. Our supporters are not demoralized; it just gives us more energy to fight these elections to the very end.”
Three other candidates are expected to be nominated later on today.
