David Gonzales was formally charged for the murder of his wife, Marisela Gonzales, on Wednesday, October 14th. Marisela’s lifeless body was discovered on Monday, October 12th, in the Marina Area south of San Pedro Town.
Family Members Question Proper Care of Deceased
While family members had been grappling with their loss, they are reporting inadequate handling of the body on the island.
Marisela’s aunt, Vigida Plietes, told The San Pedro Sun that they do not understand why the body has not been taken to Belize City for a post-mortem examination. She said that on Monday, she observed the body bloating and showing signs of decomposition. On Wednesday, the family once again try to find out why the body was still on the island and alleged that the facility housing the body (freezer) was inadequate. Plietes called on the police to look into the matter as they believe the body needs to be in a better facility where it will not further decompose. A check with authorities on this issue was futile, but according to Plietes she was told that they were trying to get additional evidence from the body.
The news that her husband David was charged for her death brings some relief to the family, who hope that the body will be transported to Belize City for a post-mortem. Afterward, they look forward to giving her a proper funeral service.
