The Christmas Season is here, and the San Pedro Police Department, along with the San Pedro Cadet Corps are embarking on their third annual toy and food drive. An initiative by the Community Policing Unit, the Christmas Drive collects items to be distributed to underprivileged families on the island. Since its beginning in 2014, the Christmas Drive has brought much joy to families in San Pedro Town, and this year, they expect to do that and even more.
According to PC Juan Choc of the Community Policing Unit in the San Pedro Police Department, the intent is to collect small toys in good condition and non-perishable food items. “We distribute these items to less fortunate families in areas like San Mateo, San Pedrito, DFC among other areas,” said Choc. He added that Christmas is a time of giving and so the police want to give a little back.
When donating towards this noble cause, toys can either be new or gently used. The police along with the cadet corp are seeking the cooperation of both the business community and individuals to assist them with the goal of reaching more families this year. “All we need is a little assistance so we can make Christmas possible for others,” said Choc. As usual, all items collected will be separated into Christmas hampers that will be distributed in the days leading up to Christmas.
Interested persons or parties wishing to donate can drop off toys and/or food at the San Pedro Police Station on Pescador Drive, or call 607-9033 for pick up. Deadline for donations is Saturday, December 17th. The San Pedro Police and Cadet Corps would like to thank all those who have always supported this project, and they look forward for their generous assistance towards the Christmas Drive. They encourage the rest of the community to give and share the Season’s cheer. The San Pedro Police Department would also like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.
