A member of the Police Department was injured in a traffic accident on Saturday April 14th in San Pedro Town. The incident involving a cycle and a golf cart occurred shortly before 7PM on Coconut Drive just in the vicinity of the Belize Yatch Club. The injured person was later learnt to be 38 year old Juanito Cocom, Sergeant of Police of a Tres Cocos Area address of San Pedro Town.
According to San Pedro Police, when they arrived at the scene shortly after 7PM, the observed a brown skin male person lying on his back on the pavement next to a blue Honda motorcycle. Cocom was observed covered with blood and with apparent head injuries.
Cocom reported to Police that he was driving his motorcycle with license plate SP M0321 from a southern to a northerly direction on Coconut Drive when upon reaching an area in front of La Isla Supermarket he collided to the back of a cart travelling in the same direction.  As a result of the collision, Cocom lost control of the cycle and slammed into the concrete pavement causing him some injuries. As a result of the incident Cocom was rushed to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Poly-Clinic where he was stabilized and later airlifted to The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMHM) where he is recuperating.
Cocom was the only person injured in the accident he has since been served him with a notice of indented prosecution pending further investigation. Officer Cocom was expected to assume responsibilities as the second in command of the San Pedro Police Station on Monday April 16th.
