Former Miss San Pedro and Miss World Belize, Iris Salguero, is back in the pageant spotlight representing Belize in the Miss Earth 2017 Pageant. Currently in the Philippines, Salguero will be taking part in a series of activities and pre-competition events leading up to the big pageant on Saturday, November 4th. The Miss Earth Pageant is an international event challenging the beauty industry to make a change and promote environmental awareness.
With 88 delegates from across the world, Miss Earth is one of the largest pageants held under the theme “Heroines Fighting Climate Change”. Participants begun arriving in Manila, Philippines on Friday, October 6th. The month long journey to the main event will see the participants taking part in clean-up campaigns, environmental seminars, school tours, eco tours, interviews and several meet and greets. During this time, contestants will also take part in preliminary events such as the resort wear competition, swimsuit competition, talent competition, and long gown competition. “Now in its 15th year, MISS EARTH continues to build its reputation as the most relevant and worthwhile beauty event in the world, setting a legacy of beauty and responsibility. The winner of MISS EARTH will serve as the Ambassador to environmental protection campaigns worldwide,” says Miss Earth organizers.
“I am happy and honored to be representing Belize. I will do my best to make my country and people proud,” said Salguero. Belize has been competing in the Miss Earth Pageant since 2007, with island native Christine Syme representing in 2015.
The 17th coronation ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 4th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines. Reigning Miss Earth 2017, Katherine Espin of Ecuador will be crowning the winner. Airing scheduled is yet to be released.
