On Saturday, August 19th, Joannie Cantun of the Orange Walk District was crowned as the new Miss Estereo Amor 2017-2018. The pageant took place at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Cayo District, and saw the participation of seven candidates from around the country. The community of Ambergris Caye was well represented by Vivian Noralez, who did a great job showcasing the Hispanic/Mestizo culture that dominates the island. The other contestants included Carmelita Lara (Cayo), Ederline Gree, Kayla Awe and Julissa Gilharry (Corozal), and Selena Urias from Belize City.
The pageant included three segments, which featured the beauties in swimwear, evening gear, and a talent segment. All the lovely participants did their best to captivate the judges. Second runner up went to Carmelita Lara from the Cayo Distirict, while Kayla Awe from Corozal was the First runner up. To the crowd’s delight, Joanne Cantun was announced as the new Miss Estereo Amor!
The San Pedro Sun joins the community in congratulating Noralez for her participation in the prestigious pageant. “Thank you to those who came out and support,” she said. “Thank you San Pedro for having me in heart.” Noralez added that this experience was another one for the books and to never forget. She also stated that it was a way to raise awareness. “The goal for this pageant was to inspire “morenas” and the amount of people who came up to me and thanked me for making ‘US’ stand out assured me that my ultimate goal was achieved,” Noralez said.
The philosophy behind the Miss Estereo Amor Pageant is to select a young woman that best represents the culture, values, language, traditions, and the beauty of the Hispanic/Mestizo/Latino culture. This can be conveyed through their etiquette, professional presentation, eloquence, attitude, confidence, personality and knowledge of a wide variety of topics relevant to this prominent culture of Belize. Miss Estereo Amor 2017-2018 will be tasked to advocate the importance of their culture to the community during their reign. We wish Joanne Cantun all the best as she undertakes this task ahead.
