Minister of Health, Hon. Pablo Marin and Ambassador of Cuba for Belize, H. E. Lissette Pérez Pérez, signed the 2020-2021 Cooperative Health Agreement in a brief ceremony held in Belmopan on October 5, 2020.

The signing is a testimony of the 25-year longstanding health relationship between Belize and the Republic of Cuba. Through this relationship, Belize continues to benefit from training and capacity building of its human resources, as well as programs to promote health education in the community.

The Government of Belize acknowledges with much gratitude the continued support and the diplomatic relationship in many other areas amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Belize, the Republic of Cuba has assisted with 59 health professionals through the Henry Reeve Brigade, who have been working across the country to help manage COVID-19 cases. This partnership and commitment between both countries will further strengthen the relationship for many years to come.

The Cooperative Health Agreement was signed in both English and Spanish. The Government of Belize reiterates its commitment to and collaboration with the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba after 30 years.
