A total of 110 face shields/masks were donated to the San Pedro and Caye Caulker police formations on Tuesday, September 1st by Cellular World. The face shields were handed over to the Officer in Charge of both police formations, Superintendent Christopher Noble at Cellular World’s branch in San Pedro Town on Pescador Drive. The items are expected to better protect police officers from getting infected with COVID-19.
Shortly after 10:45AM, a representative of the company presented Noble with the face shields/masks inside the store. Noble welcomed the donation and said that it will enhance the protection of his police officers while on duty. “The shields will be one more layer of what we already have as PPEs for our officers to, interact properly and know that nothing will happen to them,” said Noble. He thanked the business community, which continues to assist the local police department in any way they can.
Director of Cellular World Karan Sabnani was happy to assist the police formation on the islands. He said that as forefront essential workers, safety is paramount, and now more than ever with the current pandemic affecting even police officers. Sabnani said that when they heard of the situation on the island regarding the high increase in COVID-19 cases, they thought how they could help. San Pedro is very important to the company and a way to give back is by assisting the police force with safety gear as they do their best to keep the island safe.
In August, the Noble said that fourteen of its officers in San Pedro were off duty after five tested positive for COVID-19, while another nine presented flu-like symptoms. The officers were quarantined, but no update has been provided on their status. Noble was asked for an update, but he declined to comment on the officers’ conditions.
