On Tuesday, August 18th a COVID-19 patient from San Pedro Town was discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City following health complications from diabetes about a week ago. The patient is back on the island and in self-isolation at his home recovering from the virus.
The island patient’s sugar levels became very unstable, thus medical officers on the island decided to transfer the person to Belize City, where his condition improved.
The COVID-19 unit at the KHMH had six persons hospitalized, with three females intubated. One of the females died this morning. The other two continue intubated, and the remaining patients continue to show improvement. According to the Chief Executive Officer at the KHMH, those showing improvement could be discharged during the course of the week.
Health personnel on the island continue to work hard tending to the most vulnerable. Those include high-risk patients with diabetes and hypertension among other illnesses. As cases continue to increase, the community is once again reminded to continue doing its part. They appeal to all residents to practice the proper washing of hands, wearing masks, and to not go out unless it is necessary, and when doing so, to practice social distancing.
