The Ministry of Health reminds the public that it is the flu season and that the seasonal flu vaccine is now available at all public health centers countrywide.
The Ministry encourages specific at-risk groups to get the flu vaccine. These groups include children 6-23 months, pregnant women, adults 65 years and older, health care providers, and persons suffering from chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, or on the advice of a consulting physician.
The flu vaccine helps to prevent the flu or the severity of the illness, if contracted. Mild side effects may include a slight fever, muscle pain or soreness at the injection site.
The flu vaccine is free of cost and persons in the above-mentioned groups are advised to visit their nearest health center to be vaccinated.
