According to organizer Bonnie Musbach, every year, medical professionals that travel to Belize are kind enough to join the donation initiative and bring much needed medical supplies for the clinic. “Every year, we have people from Canada come down and bring items from their emergency facilities and likewise we organize something similar at the Royal Palm Villas. We always contact the polyclinic administrator and get a wish list from them and I put it out there and try to get what the polyclinic needs,” said Musbach.
Canadian Registered Nurse, Tannis Hushagen expressed her happiness to be able to assist in this initiative. “I come to Belize as often as I can and I love this place and I realized that where I work in Canada, which is in an emergency room facility, we have a lot of things that can be reused over here. Equipment that is clean and sterile, such as surgical supplies which can become very useful in emergency situations,” said Hushagen. She said that her involvement in the program began back in February of 2015 when she met with Musbach.
Administrator of the clinic, Owen Vellos welcomes the donation, which will go a long way in improving their services. “We are always grateful with any sort of donations that can benefit the clinic. We welcome it and thank Mrs. Musbach for always looking out for us, and since we have a 24-hour service now, these items that are donated to us today will greatly allow us to tend to our patients,” stated Vellos.
Musbach indicated that more donations are coming to the clinic in the weeks to come and made an inquiry to the polyclinic for equipment they may need. The administrator also took the opportunity to thank everyone who always supports and contributes to the clinic.
