On Saturday, June 27th, the San Pedro Belize Red Cross (SPBRC) held it second blood drive of the year. A collaboration with the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II and the Belize Blood Bank, SPBRC strives to build the islands blood supply. While the blood drive was not as successful as the previous, a total of seven usable pints of blood were collected. It only takes a single pint of blood to save three lives.
From 9AM to 3PM, everyone was encouraged to donate blood in order to keep a full supply on hand at the Belize Blood Bank in case residents or visitors from San Pedro experience emergencies. Snacks and refreshments were provided to all those who donated blood.
Volunteers were also on the street collecting donations for SPBRC. Passersby were invited to kindly make a monetary contribution and a total of $540 was collected. The monies will be used to continue the work of SPBRC and to assist those in need.
SPBRC greatly appreciates those who donated, and special thanks go out to Lick’s Beachside Café and Tropic Air for assisting in the blood drive.
