Prime Minister Nominates New Attorney General

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño has nominated Mr. Anthony Sylvestre to be appointed as Belize’s new Attorney General. Mr. Sylvestre will assume his new post on July 1, 2023.
An attorney-at-law by profession, Mr. Sylvestre has held several positions on committees and boards. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Belize and a director on the boards of Belize Electricity Limited and Belize Infrastructure Limited. He has also served on the Belize Advisory Council on the Guatemalan Claim, the Income and Business Tax Appeals Board, and the Policy and the Legislative Sub-Committee of the National AIDS Commission. Additionally, Mr. Sylvestre was a Senator of the National Assembly of Belize and a Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr. Sylvestre holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, and a Certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.
The Prime Minister thanks Mrs. Magali Marin Young, SC, for over two years of service to the people and Government of Belize and wishes her every success as she returns to her practice.
